Cougar Athletics Mission Statement
Cougar Athletics offers a competitive NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics experience advancing the UMN Morris commitment to academic excellence, diversity, service, and community; fostering the core values of integrity, respect, unity, commitment, and excellence; and furthering students’ success in athletics, learning, and life.

The UMN Morris Athletic Department Statement of Philosophy

The Athletic Department of UMN Morris seeks to establish and maintain an atmosphere which supports the educational mission of the University by ensuring that each student-athlete's athletic activities are part of the overall educational experience. To achieve this end, the Athletic Department:

1) Supports student-athletes in their efforts to reach high levels of performance as they compete for conference and regional championships.
2) Encourages the development of sportsmanship and positive societal attitudes.
3) Provides for equal opportunities for men and women.
4) Ensures that coaches and administrators exhibit fairness, openness and honesty in their relationships with student-athletes.
5) Places the highest priority on the successful completion of each student- athlete's academic program.

The Clifford J. Benson Center for Community Partnerships fosters campus-community collaborations to address needs in small towns. The Benson Center includes two units, the Center for Small Towns and the Office of Community Engagement, and works closely with the Office of Sustainability and the Morris Challenge. All four units are co-located in UMN Morris’ Welcome Center.

Rodney A. Briggs Library at the University of Minnesota, Morris promotes lifelong learning and the enrichment of campus life through instruction, research, scholarship and creative endeavors in the liberal arts tradition. Through an understanding of traditional and emerging technology and pedagogy the library provides space, resources, and services that foster the creation, access, evaluation and synthesis of information. Founded in the belief that all people have the right to information, the library also serves the intellectual and cultural needs of West Central Minnesota.

Summit Scholars - TRIO Student Support Services, a U.S. Department of Education supported program, promotes access, equal opportunity, and success for students who are first-generation in college, students who are low income, and students who have disabilities.

Grounded in the civil rights movement and the War on Poverty, TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) provides inclusive and accessible services, including academic support, financial wellness education, FAFSA assistance, career and graduate school exploration, cultural enrichment, and cohort-building programming. The TRIO SSS program seeks to remove institutional and cultural barriers, foster a climate that values the social and cultural capital of our students, and promote retention to graduation.

New Student Welcome Week is held for all new incoming UMN Morris students before the start of fall semester. This is your chance to get better acquainted with campus and find out all of the information you need to know before classes start. If you’ll be living on campus, this is also when you will move in at your scheduled move-in time.


Spanning four days, Welcome Week is full of activity and fun you won’t want to miss out on. The first day of Welcome Week includes moving into your residence hall, with a welcome picnic and kick-off event held later in the day.

Throughout Welcome Week, you will be able to

make connections with a group of new students and an experienced student leader;

meet people; connect with other new students and returning students, faculty, and staff;

meet with your academic adviser and learn about academic resources;

move into your residence hall, meet your neighbors, and get to know your community adviser;

learn about campus life, opportunities, and cultural perspectives that make UMN Morris unique;

sign up for student organizations and get involved;

explore the campus and Morris community; and

take care of things like buying books, finding classrooms before classes start, registering your bike or vehicle, and connecting with other campus resources.
