SNAP- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-UPDATESπŸ’²πŸ“

In collaboration with the Income Maintenance Unit of Stevens County Human Services and Morris Food Justice, we provide students with information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). We can help you determine if this program is suitable for you.

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) assists low-income Minnesotans by providing supplemental benefits to help stretch their food budget.

Federal Shutdown and SNAP Benefits 10.23.2025

Due to the federal government shutdown, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program) food benefits may not be issued in November. The cash portion of MFIP will be issued.

We know this situation is confusing and stressful. Please know you are not alone and there are community resources available to help you and your family.

What You Can Do
If you currently receive SNAP or MFIP:

  • If you have been receiving benefits, continue to use them as usual for now. October benefits are not impacted.
  • Keep your contact information up to date with your county or Tribal nation so that you can receive important updates and information about your case.

If you think you may be eligible for SNAP:

  • You can still apply for benefits. Counties and Tribal Nations will continue reviewing and processing applications. https://mnbenefits.mn.gov/

Food Resources in Your Community

There are local food options available to help you access food support:

Hunger Solutions Food Map

Minnesota Food Helpline

  • Call 1-888-711-1151 to connect with a trained staff who can direct you to food shelves and food assistance programs in your area.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

  • Families with children under 5 may qualify for WIC benefits. Visit Hennepin County WIC for details.

Stay Updated

The State of Minnesota will post updates about SNAP and MFIP on its federal shutdown information page. Visit: dcyf.mn.gov/federal-shutdown

The University of Minnesota Dining Services is supporting University students, faculty, and staff whose SNAP benefits are disrupted. πŸ΄

Below  is More Information about it

Beginning November 4 and continuing each day that SNAP benefits are unavailable, current SNAP benefit recipients, including students, faculty, and staff, will be able to access one free, in-person meal per day in the Dining Hall.

You will, though, first need to verify your eligibility.

If you’re a UMN Morris student, you can verify your SNAP benefits eligibility at One Stop Student Services (first floor of Behmler Hall), and if you’re a UMN Morris employee, you can verify your SNAP eligibility at our human resources office (second floor of Behmler Hall).
